Biofuel Conversion for Future-Proof District Heating

As part of the transition to fossil-free district heating, PetroBio has delivered three major rebuild projects for E.ON. E.ON is one of Europe’s largest energy network providers, with district heating as part of its service offerings. In Sweden, E.ON supplies district heating in several locations.

In Hallsberg, two boilers were upgraded with new burners, piping systems, as well as pump and heating units to enable operation with environmentally friendly bio-oil. The total capacity is 19 MW, and the project is part of E.ON Sweden’s goal to become completely fossil-free.

In Örebro, PetroBio converted a 140 MW peak-load boiler from fossil oil to bio-oil. The delivery included burner replacement, control system modernization, oil pump unit, fuel handling, and extensive piping installations. The boiler is now an important component in the city’s fossil-free heat supply.

In Navestad, Norrköping, we delivered a complete system for bio-oil operation with a new unloading station, oil pump unit, filtration, and upgraded burners—fully installed and commissioned, 45 MW.
